GOLDWING (BAGGER) 2018

Honda has taken the wraps off its flagship offering, the Goldwing at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. The 2018 Goldwing comes in two variants – Goldwing(Bagger) and Goldwing Tour. The images here are of the Goldwing (Bagger). The flagship bike features a slew of improvements over its predecessor. Honda claims the new Goldwing is lighter and more involving to ride. Visually, though the 2018 Goldwing gets sleeker and sharper design cues, the bike does look massive. The fairing design aids in better aerodynamics and Honda claims an improvement of 11.8 percent in aerodynamic efficiency. The headlamps are full LED units, there is an electrically adjustable windscreen and a 7-inch full-colour TFT instrument console with analogue dials. The tourer draws power from a 1800cc, horizontally-opposed, 6-cylinder engine. Power and torque figures haven’t been revealed yet. However, the engine comes paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The 1800cc engine with the DCT also features forward/reverse Walking Mode (which makes this mammoth manoeuvrable while parking). The Honda Goldwing uses a double wishbone and Pro-Link Showa monoshock for the front and rear suspension respectively. The double wishbone suspension at the front reduces shock transmission to the handlebar by up to 30 percent and a 40 percent reduction in the inertial mass at the front end. Braking duties are taken care by dual 320 mm discs at the front and a single 316 mm rear disc. ABS is offered as standard. Other features include ride-by-wire throttle with 4 riding modes (Tour, Sport, Economy and Rain), Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), Cruise Control, Hill Start Assist and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System.

GOLDWING 2018 GL 1800 Specification !

2018 Gold Wing Tour Key Updates Lighter overall package results in improved handling and maneuverability More compact, lighter engine with four-valve head and Unicam valve train Available seven-speed DCT with Walking Mode forward/reverse Six-speed manual transmission Robotically welded aluminum twin-tube frame with revised plate thicknesses Radially mounted six-piston dual front braking calipers Double-wishbone front-suspension system Electrically controlled suspension Throttle-by-wire with multiple riding modes Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) Hill Start Assist Smart Key Apple CarPlay compatibility LED lighting Updated design with 11.8 percent improved aerodynamic efficiency Electric windscreen adjustment Performance ENGINE (Standard on all Trims) The Gold Wing’s horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine is famously smooth and powerful. They've kept that same overall architecture, but it’s an all-new 1833cc powerplant for 2018, and over 13 pounds lighter (more than 8 pounds for the DCT versions). ALUMINUM CYLINDER SLEEVES (Standard on all Trims) High-strength aluminum cylinder sleeves help reduce weight, increase cooling efficiency, and reduce engine length. The 73mm cylinder bore and short, high-strength crankshaft also help make the engine more compact. UNICAM CYLINDER HEAD DESIGN (Standard on all Trims) The new engine uses four-valve, Unicam® cylinder head design. That improves engine performance and power, and also contributes to the engine’s weight reduction. The four-valve per cylinder design is also a big part of the new Gold Wing’s improved fuel efficiency. 7-SPEED AUTOMATIC DCT TRANSMISSION (Standard on GW AUTO DCT, GW TOUR AUTO DCT & GW TOUR AIRBAG AUTO DCT) This is huge news for 2018. For the first time ever, the Gold Wing is available with a brand new 7-Speed Automatic DCT. The shifts in this version are faster and smoother than ever, and the overdrive seventh gear is perfect for highway cruising. 6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION (Standard on GOLD WING & GOLD WING TOUR) Want a manual transmission? The new Gold Wing offers the best conventional gearbox in Gold Wing history. Case in point: now you get an overdrive sixth gear. SLIPPER CLUTCH (Standard on GOLD WING & GOLD WING TOUR) They've given their new Gold Wing’s with manual transmissions a slipper clutch, just like their premium sportbikes. It only makes sense—the 1833cc engine delivers tons of power, and the new chassis lets you ride this Gold Wing like a sportbike. Twisty roads? Bring ’em on! EXHAUST DOUBLE WALL PIPES (Standard on all Trims) You may think this is just for cosmetics, but on a hot day single-wall exhaust pipes can throw off a lot of heat. The new Gold Wing’s twin-wall design keeps things cooler. Plus, this is the best sounding Gold Wing they've ever built! FUEL EFFICIENCY (Standard on all Trims) Because the 2018 Gold Wing is lighter, you’d expect it to be more fuel efficient. But lighter weight is just the start. Combined with the new engine, new intake system, and new four-valve design, estimated fuel economy is up 22 percent.* Want to really squeeze the last mile out of every drop? Try the “Econ” ride mode setting. *Honda's fuel economy estimates are based on EPA exhaust emission measurement test procedures and are intended for comparison purposes only. Your actual mileage will vary depending on how you ride, how you maintain your vehicle, weather, road conditions, tire pressure, installation of accessories, cargo, rider and passenger weight, and other factors. WALKING MODE (Standard on GW DCT, GW TOUR DCT & GW TOUR AIRBAG DCT) A big leap forward for 2018: The new Gold Wing DCT models feature “Walking Mode,” which lets you creep forward under power at a walking pace. Think how easy it will be to get in and out of tight parking spots with a fully loaded bike. CRUISE CONTROL (Standard on all Trims) Of course the new Gold Wing still features cruise control, and with their new throttle-by-wire system it’s better than ever. Handling DOUBLE WISHBONE FRONT SUSPENSION (Standard on all Trims) One look and your eyes will immediately go to the Gold Wing’s radical, new Honda-engineered double-wishbone front suspension. The innovative design changes the path the wheel travels through the suspension stroke, and that lets Honda move both the engine and the rider/passenger closer to the front wheel. You get more room, and stellar handling. FRAME (Standard on all Trims) This latest generation all-aluminum frame is significantly lighter and more compact than previous editions. State-of-the-art die-casting lets us fine-tune chassis rigidity, giving you both a smooth ride and precise handling. SWING ARM/ REAR SUSPENSION (Standard on all Trims) Using their proprietary single-sided Pro Arm® design, the aluminum swingarm still houses the Gold Wing’s shaft drive. The swingarm links to the frame using a new, patented pivot structure that both increases stiffness and reduces weight. You get responsive handling and a smoother ride. ANTI-LOCK BRAKES (Standard on all Trims) Have to make a hard stop, fully loaded and two up? All new 2018 Gold Wings are equipped with combined anti-lock brakes for excellent stopping power under a wide variety of road and traction conditions. RIDE MODES (Standard on all Trims) Gold Wing engines offer a wide range of user-friendly power, and now you can even choose between four ride modes (Tour, Sport, Rain, and Econ). Each mode varies power output depending on the mode selected. On the Gold Wing Tour models, it also changes suspension damping, and the shift points on the DCT models. WEIGHT REDUCTION (Standard on all Trims) Shaving weight on a motorcycle returns all sorts of benefits, from handling to acceleration to just being easier to maneuver around. Honda didn’t just shave ounces or grams with the new Gold Wing. They lopped off pounds—almost 90. The lighter weight absolutely redefines this motorcycle. You thought it was fun to ride on twisty roads before? Wait until you experience this one. LOW CENTER OF GRAVITY (Standard on all Trims) It’s not just how much a motorcycle weighs; it’s how it distributes that weight. Thanks to their horizontally opposed engines, Gold Wings have always offered a low center of gravity. The new 2018 Gold Wing offers the lowest center of gravity of any bike in the class. That’s a huge benefit in handling, and it makes the bike feel lighter and easier to maneuver. RADIAL FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS (Standard on all Trims) The brake calipers on the new Gold Wing are mounted similar to that of our Grand Prix winning RC213V. Why? The stiffer mounting reduces caliper flex and improves brake power and feel. ELECTRONIC SUSPENSION PRELOAD (Standard on all Trims) The new Gold Wing Tour’s suspension features four electronically adjustable modes for varying loads. You can select (1) Rider, (2) Rider with loaded bags, (3) Rider and passenger, and (4) Rider and passenger with loaded bags. RIDE MODES (Standard on GW TOUR, GW TOUR AUTO DCT & GW TOUR AIRBAG AUTO DCT) On a Gold Wing Tour Model, when you select a Ride Mode (Touring, Sport, Rain, Econ), in addition to tailoring the engine’s power character, the mode choice also changes your damping characteristics, automatically controlling the oil flow in the front and rear shocks. This helps optimize the bikes maneuverability and ride quality. Engineering THROTTLE BY WIRE (Standard on all Trims) The 2018 Gold Wing’s throttle-by-wire system enables features like our ride modes and their exclusive Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) which you’ll find on Gold Wing Tour models. HILL START ASSIST (Standard on all Trims) Both the Gold Wing and Gold Wing Tour models feature Hill Start Assist (HSA). This feature momentarily holds your motorcycle’s position on inclines when the brakes are released and before you apply the throttle, eliminating any roll-back drama. It’s a great convenience when starting from a stop on a hill. SMART KEY (Standard on all Trims) Your new Gold Wing features an electronic smart key. When the key is in close proximity (say, in your jacket pocket), you can just hop on, press a button, and ride off. An “answer back” feature lets you find your bike in the dark or in crowded rally parking. ISG - INTEGRATED STARTER GENERATOR (Standard on all Trims) Most cars and motorcycles have separate starters and alternators. Not your new Gold Wing. They've combined the starter and alternator into one compact assembly, that is both light and compact. It’s part of the Gold Wing’s overall weight-savings program, and you’ll hear the difference the first time you press the start button. REVERSE (Standard on GW AUTO DCT, GW TOUR, GW TOUR DCT & GW TOUR AIRBAG AUTO DCT) Gold Wing DCT models offer an exclusive low-speed reverse that uses engine power. The Gold Wing Tour with manual transmission offers a unique electric reverse. Both systems make it easy to maneuver your bike out of a parking space, especially if you need to roll back up hill.
